ATAMEKAN

Metallic Chestnut, 15.3½ hh, 1989 - 2006

This tremendously resilient horse was imported from Central Asia, having survived terrible famine and ill-treatment.

Atamekan raced for five seasons in Turkmenistan, and was classed Grade I. He subsequently made a long-distance journey on the Silk Road from Nisa to Merv, unshod and with little food other than grass. After surviving starvation he was brought to England, and two years later carried out the 2001 Odyssey for ME, a 500-mile journey across Britain raising money for Medical Research.

From just a few outings, Atamekan won several times showjumping and jumped Open Cross-Country. All his offspring are bold and natural jumpers. His courage, athleticism and intelligence mark all his foals, as does his breed's natural affinity with people.
